This time, the small city fire truck, utilizing the Atego 1329 chassis, represents the development trend of firefighting equipment in the urbanization process, with its excellent crew accommodation and high vehicle maneuverability. Additionally, among more than 20 fire trucks modified using Mercedes-Benz chassis, a pure imported smoke exhaust fire truck also made its first public appearance.

  • Multi-crew, high mobility: Meeting new urban firefighting demands

The expansion of urban scale and increasing population have raised the difficulty of urban firefighting operations annually, demanding higher requirements for personnel quantity and division of labor. To meet this, firefighting agencies and modification enterprises have begun widely adopting double-row four-door driver cabs.

Mercedes-Benz Actros, Axor, Atego, and other chassis series all provide double-row four-door driver cab products. Taking the Atego 1329 city main battle fire truck as an example, in addition to accommodating the driver and operator, it can also accommodate an additional four firefighters, thereby optimizing the efficiency of firefighting vehicles and personnel dispatch in firefighting operations.

At the same time, the rapid increase in urban vehicle ownership has made road conditions increasingly complex, requiring firefighting vehicles with excellent maneuverability. The advantages of firefighting-specific chassis with powerful engines and short wheelbases are highlighted.

The Atego 1329 is equipped with the efficient and powerful OM906LA engine, with a power of 210 kW and a power-to-weight ratio reaching 16.1. Its wheelbase can be shortened to 3,560 mm, making it particularly agile on city roads and effectively ensuring life and property safety in race against time firefighting rescue missions. Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz Axor 1829 is also a commonly used chassis model in urban firefighting, offering options of 4×2 and 4×4 drive modes.

  • Professional segmentation, covering various applications in the firefighting field

Industrialization and urbanization promote economic and social development, but also increase the hidden dangers of fire, with potential scale and destructiveness growing. The enhancement of firefighting vehicle joint operations and cooperative capabilities relies on a specialized, segmented chassis as the foundation.

Mercedes-Benz showcased a strong product lineup, including Actros, Axor, Atego, and Unimog. They are finely divided based on cabin configuration, vehicle wheelbase, driving performance, payload, and other indicators, with functional applications covering all domestic firefighting operations such as urban main battle, remote water supply, high-rise water supply, high-level jetting, aerial ladder, water foam tank, and airport firefighting.

For example, the Actros 4160 water foam fire truck exhibited at this show uses a 600-horsepower, 2,800 N·m V8 engine, matched with a full-power take-off and high-power water cannon, giving it advantages in large-scale fire rescue operations in terms of power and payload. This chassis can also be equipped with a double-row four-door driver cab.

Regarding single chassis models, Mercedes-Benz can optimize layouts (such as fuel tanks) according to user requirements. Its unique PSM programming module and CAN technology can be programmed and designed according to modification requirements, thereby truly integrating the upper body and chassis, allowing full play of upper body functions.
